Here is the latest panel I created for a local woman here in town. Her mother wanted to give her something special for her birthday this year and I was the lucky artist who was asked to create that "something special"! I am cutting and grinding a beautiful Spectrum sky blue glass along with a Uroboros amber and green glass for the oak leafs today. The studio doors are open, the breeze is wonderful and saws are humming as Creative Treasures (link along my sidebar) continues to put the finishing touches on their new storefront. It is a busy time for both my studio and theirs as they prepare for the Stephenson County Fair and I continue to create my latest stained glass commission. There is no breeze, large storm clouds on the horizon and the sky is beginning to rumble. She is talking! I am busy today in my studio working up the newest design I'm creating. The glass is ordered and it will arrive tomorrow. Thanks to the help of Creative Treasures I have managed to eek out a pattern that is ready to cut. My printer at home decided that now would be a good time to stop working. Last week it was my laptop. Things come in threes? What is next? I ask. I am looking forward to getting back to cutting and grinding in my studio. The time off was nice but two weeks was a bit too long to be away. My hands did need the rest so I obliged them. I'm back and ready to get busy! Thanks goes out again to Paula from Roughing It In Style!

solder lines. I would have taken the picture in full sunlight but it has
been HORRIBLY windy day. I didn't want to push my luck! At any rate you

church windows. It's going very well and I'm getting ready to grind
each individual piece of the first panel. The photos I've added show some of the pattern pieces

Elvira Lutheran Church was a smashing success! I will be traveling to
Madison, WI to make the glass and supply purchases this weekend. Heat

Hello my friends! Oh how the time flies during the Autumn months. It always amazes me. Here is my latest update on Adam and Eve. This panel is read to be soldered and I will be starting that process in the next couple of days. As a side note, I've decided to dress as Wilma Flintstone for All Hallow's Eve. WHY???? I found a kickin dress at Goodwill for under $5.00! LOL So, in these hard economic times, hey, whatever works. Right? LIFT UP YOUR ART! Laurie B.

Well, my laptop still refuses to comply with my request to upload photos from My Pictures and crashes every single time. So, I have taken some photos via mobile upload to my Facebook page. I'll be straight. My business has languished as of late. I noticed a big dive in sales of medium priced pieces last year and I'm still treading water. I've had some large commissions which have kept my business afloat the past six months so for that I am thankful. I bide my time on Facebook and now that winter is over I find myself outside in my gardens, planting Early Girl and Big Boy Tomatoes, habenero peppers and Ruby Beets. The annuals were planted and the rains came to water them in nicely. Once again, I find myself here, waiting for a sale, waiting for my next special order and wondering how long this dry spell will continue. I try and refrain from lamenting about it too much. I believe that positive thoughts create positive results. In a moment of weakness I posted a piece on Facebook regarding an article I read in the Washington Post, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/01/AR2009050100218.html?nav=igoogle and three kind souls left the following comments in response:

Hello friends, as I type the sun is trying to shine. We have had buckets of rain over the past week and our farmers are stalled once again. I was able to get my transplants in over the weekend and also planted dozens and dozens of flowers. Today I will be back to my glass studio for some intense work. I was also able to get over a dozen birdhouse gourds drilled out and ready for either hanging naturally or stain/wax/paint. I finally used my new Dremel! This VERY special husband ordered his wife an Anniversary Rose Panel that will last forever! He was a joy to work with and is a wonderful woodworker too! He plans to frame this panel I created so we both had a hand in creating this special anniversary gift for his deserving wife. His sweet daughter also had a hand in the surprise. I met her in Decatur, Illinois and handed the gift off to her. From there she took it to her dad who patiently waited until their Anniversary date arrived. Congratulations to Deb and Bill!!! Good Morning Friends!
I have been wickedly busy. I was going to launch into all of the details of what I've been up to but decided that since it is Thousand Word Thursday I would let the pictures talk for me. My grand daughter is such a blessing and a joy, my Hyde Park Panel is "on my last nerve" the Dove and Cross piece is ready to be soldered at this point and last but in NO way least, we have a new addition to our family. I would like to introduce Sebastian. I have his schedule established and all is right with the world again. Word of advice....if you are thinking of getting a new puppy...WAIT UNTIL SPRING. I have never stood outside in the f r e e z i n g cold for so long in my entire life~ lol

Denise is an avid artist in so many different mediums I've lost count and Mike is continuing to excel in his woodworking talents. Together they are unstopable. As many of you know I'm a Master Gardener and have several flower and herb beds. This sign will be a beautiful addition. The photo above shows Denise and Mike holding the HERBS sign and in the spring I will show you how beautiful it looks in my herb garden. I can't wait! I
first heard this song the day my niece Tendai was born. Although she isn't pictured here the song keeps her close to my heart) The year in review is such an amazing journey for me to take. I hit some real benchmarks with my business, tackled some serious health issues, rekindle so many friendships from (gulp) 30 years ago by embracing Facebook, and had both my sons married within 6 weeks of each other! The gabmit of emotions ran from fear to pure joy. Being a human on the face of this earth can be such a challenge. The political climate was a tough one for me and drove me inward towards my art. Some burdens were lifted while new ones took their places. I continue to reflect most days on my blessings, enjoying small wonders and celebrating even the hardest moments this life hands me. I tried my best to honor the past, and live in the present and create the future. Did I stumble and fall, of course, but I told myself that at least I fell. That means I'm moving forward. I remind myself that as with anything in nature, when we stop growing, we die. So my friends, here's to continued growth! With gratitude, Laurie B
I recently had the pleasure of meeting our neighbors that live two fields NW of us. It all started in the voting booth (of all places). I was in the booth casting my vote and I heard this lovely sing-song voice talking about her beautiful THORNLESS berry bushes and how wonderful they did this season. I never circled that ballot so fast in my life! (I have been struggling to get my berries and grapes to flourish) I shoved that ballot into the machine and did an invisible sign of the cross.
The woman (JB)and her husband (Robert) were getting ready to leave and I boldy said "wait! I need to know about your berries." Of course they looked at me like I was off my nut (most do at first) and I explained myself. We talked a bit and realized we were neighbors. Robert said, "well I don't suppose you like horseradish?" We were instant friends! I followed them to their place and my jaw dropped as I pulled into their drive. It's a magical homestead. A beautiful stand of trees line the north lot and the home is gently surrounded by ornamentals and flowers of all types. I couldn't help but think of the evoloution of The Olde Farmhouse and how I pictured it like this property a few years from now. (if I'm lucky!)
I jumped out of the car and Robert was gathering the freshly picked horseradish for us. JB said, "Come and see my Rooster and Hens!" We walked over to the chicken coop and there was a magnificent rooster. JB said, "His name is Bob." For 3 years, as I gardened every morning, landscaped and worked on my stained glass I heard a rooster crow. I always wondered where he lived. I have finally met Bob The Rooster! He's very kind and gentle to his hens. We were formally introduced. With that JB took me on a tour of their home. She is a wonderful water color artist in her own right and she is in the process of building an art studio. I must admit I covet their ability to create such beauty and adapt their surroundings to their passions. We have so much in common! From our love of geo-thermo heat, our love of the land, critters, art, gourmet cooking, home decor and more, to our similar backgrounds we are really in sync. We did have one teeny-tiny difference....our politics! LOL! So, I believe if we leave our politics in the closet we will be fast and enduring friends. JB and Robert invited us to a wonder evening at their place after I was over my illness. The meal we shared was so tasty and I am hoping we didn't over stay our welcome. We left with a dozen freshly laid eggs from "the gals" which I served to my family when they stayed for Thanksgiving. We had a magnificent time with JB and Robert and we are so blessed to have such awesome neighbors. NOW when I hear the Rooster crow I can say "good morning to you too Bob!" With gratitude, Laurie B.

Hyde Park became a Royal Park in 1536 when the land was acquired by King Henry VIII. To this day, the name Hyde Park has been associated with elegance, style and grace. In London, New York, Chicago and many more places, majestic homes of affluence designed with stained glass accents are considered masterpieces of beauty and grace. These style have a timeless quality and are just as comfortable at the beginning of the last century as they are at the beginning of this one.

Good morning faithful readers,
I've just finished reading the article in our local newspaper and it was very well done. I LOVE the writer. He's from England (with totally cool thick accent). One of the things that impressed me most about him was that he actually KNEW that my garden was an English Cottage Style Garden. Most people look at it and think it's "just messy". At any rate, he did a wonderful job with the article, I love his writing style and I wanted to share it with my readers so here's the link. His comment about my stained glass being around after I have turned to dust still has me chuckling! I've always said "just throw my ashes into my gardens and that will make me the happiest!"
