PAYING IT FORWARD

Hello readers,

I have spent the morning fixing one broken piece in a very large panel. I am done and ready to put the frame back on. Repair work is my nemesis however the more I practice the more patient and relaxed I remain.  On we go! Here are a couple of photos of a sweet 8 year old "temporary assistant" working on a new commission sign called Roughing It In Style. You can visit their website at http://www.roughingitinstyle.com/ It is a beautiful line of stores. I am going to be creating a piece for them soon. My temporary assistant was very very interested in this art form and since I was soldering and working directly with the glass I asked her to assemble the patterns for me. She did a wonderful job! Pay your art forward! Share your passion! LIFT UP YOUR ART! Laurie

PROGRESS ON THE STAINED GLASS CHURCH WINDOWS: TAKE 2

It has been a productive day at The Looking Glass Studio. Here is the first panel prior to patina applied to the solder lines. I would have taken the picture in full sunlight but it has been HORRIBLY windy day. I didn't want to push my luck! At any rate you are sharing in the first sunlight this piece has seen. LIFT UP YOUR ART!!

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS

Hello readers! I felt the need to take one month (almost) off of my blogging to clear my head, refocus my energies and tend to some family issues that arose in April. Family first in all things has been my motto for many a year now. I am back and ready to blog away about  my new adventures. My husband is in the throws of building a new stained glass studio to accomodate my new large stained glass commissions. I have found a wonderful home on Facebook and recently started a Fan Page of which I hope you all join. I will open up discussions regarding the process of stained glass, answer questions that I am able to address and share my newest creations with you there. The Olde Farmhouse has kept us very busy over the past couple of months. We had a horrible flood and had to evacuate but have made a full recovery. I harvested gallons and gallons of strawberries over the past two weeks with the help of my loving husband and mother and we have all of the flower beds under control for the most part. I was blessed to spend a week with my grand daughter. She has a beautiful, sweet and loving spirit and at seven months I can only imagine what the next year will bring! She is truly a miracle. Sebastian bonded with her and they are simply joined at the hip. Please check out The Looking Glass Fan page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/THE-LOOKING-GLASS/85733685674?ref=mf and become a fan! It is nice to be back here on Blogger. I missed sharing the ins and outs of life as a stained glass artist with you. Pictures of my flowers, grand daughter, pets and various other parts of my daily living will continue here! With gratitude, Laurie B.

DOVE AND CROSS

Good Morning friends, I'm still putting the finishing touches (patina) on my Dove And Cross panel, however, I snapped a couple of pictures this morning and wanted to share it on my blog. Onward and upward to my Hyde Park panel. Here's hoping your day is Blest! With Gratitude, Laurie B.

HEY SCARY MOM....BOO!

Hey SCARY MOM....BOO!
Okay, so I'm not OPRAH, but what the hell, if she can go on TV with no makeup, I can suck it up and BLOG it!
I've had several readers ask me just what I meant when I spoke about my "smoke and mirrors" preparations for my son's wedding. Up until now I ignored the question.
Then Scary Mom sent a shout out that she wanted to do a piece about bad high school pictures of the blogger, blogger children and so on. I emailed her back, telling her I was older than dirt and didn't think I could find a bad pic of me from the dark ages and asked if a wedding photo would do. "Eh" she said, "that will work". So I double-dog-dare-my readers to head over to her blog and join in the fun at http://www.scarymommy.com/
As for my meaning of "smoke and mirrors".....a picture is worth a thousand words. Don't illusions just crack you up?
Next week I'm back to blogging ALL about my stained glass! I've vowed to keep it "on point" from now until Christmas with stained glass talk and pictures up the wazzo. With the outside happenings drawing to a close at The Olde Farmhouse, you may get an occasional picture of an ice storm, Phoebe dancing in snow drifts or Prudence knocking over my Christmas tree. (I'm planning on that one and have purchased only unbreakable ornaments this year!)
With Gratitude, Laurie B. Now get those photos uploaded and send them to Jill at Scary Mom! It should be a hoot!

STYLE FX HOME SAFE!

The sign made it home safely to Madison, Wisconsin and even got installed! Thanks again to Style FX for allowing me to create this for them. With gratitude, Laurie B.

Style FX sign handed off to owner!

Well my friends, regular readers of this blog know that I have been working on a commission for several months. Today I handed it off to the Hair Salon, Style FX! Jamie Lee came to The Olde Farmhouse to pick it up and we took a couple of pictures for posterity! Onward and upward to my next commission! With gratitude, Laurie B.

SAFE AND SOUND!

I am so THRILLED that this mosaic window made it to it's new home! Just look at the smile on their faces! This is exactly why I create my art. Not only does it warm my heart and spirit to create....I just love it when someone else can enjoy my work.
Thank you to these special buyers, to hubby for building yet another wooden crate for me and to UPS for delivering it safely.
For any "doubting Thomas" out there....yes stained glass does ship safely if you pack it correctly! Even super large and heavy pieces!
I'm sharing photos of the process along with the picture of it's safe arrival!
Wonderful! With gratitude, Laurie B.

MUSINGS FOR TODAY

GoOd MoRNInG friends!
After a whirlwind trip to our hometown of Freeport, IL, then on to Madison, WI and back home to The Olde Farmhouse, we are regrouping and taking a breather! I wish I had some beautiful pictures to post of the glass I've been working on but I'm not quite ready to post them yet. Soon; very soon. I've been busy this fine morning working on my stained glass commission, two inventory pieces, networking with my fellow artists online and am getting ready to do some copper foiling. I wanted to jump on here quick and say HeLLo to everyone. I'll share this A-dorable picture of my best girl, Phoebe! She was a real trooper this weekend. At a moment's notice she was shuttled off to stay with my son and soon to be daughter-in-law who live an hour away. Jessica, *my future daughter-in-law, snapped this picture of Phoebe, sitting in her back seat after we did the hand-off. Poor "Feebs" gets horribly car sick. We did the doggie Dramamine but alas, she still had "an episode". This picture was taken BEFORE the mess! As you can see, she's filled with love and affection, even when she's feeling yucky! My kind-of-gal!
With gratitude, Laurie B.

ELEGANT VICTORIAN HAS FOUND A HOME

I am so happy that my Elegant Victorian panel has found a home! It will be going to PA!! This piece is a special one for me. It was one of the more challenging designs I've worked on and the construction was also quite a bit of detailed work. I'm sure the owner of this treasure will enjoy years of sunshine through the beauty of this glass! Enjoy! Laurie B.

DRAGONFLY WITH CONTEMPORARY FLAIR

Here is yet another dragonfly I've listed this evening on Esty. I gave it a more contemporary look by using tinned copper and no patina for those that like this look better! Enjoy! As with all of my pieces, I welcome special requests, colors and designs! Love Your Yard! Love Your Art! Laurie B.

DRAGONFLY GARDEN ART

HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE and Mid Summer's Night Eve!! In honor of this occasion I am listing this shimmering dragonfly on Etsy this evening! I will be making several of these in different types of glass and glass globs and am going to experiment with different staking options, however, I thought the copper was perfect for the look I was going for with this piece. Stained Glass is weather RESISTANT but it rather irks me when I see artists list their outdoor stained glass pieces as weather PROOF! This is a heavy, durable piece that is sure to withstand some high winds and rain....Enjoy! With Gratitude, Laurie B.

ITS OFFICIAL-I'M THE PAPARAZZI

Yes folks, she is now A DIVA and after seeing this photo of her all I could think about were the dozens of pictures you see of movie stars trying to block the paparazzi from taking their photo! I just had to share this...and yes, that IS her HAND/PAW blocking the camera lens...So for all of my Prudence fans, this one is for the books! I'm now off to finish up some dragonfly garden decor and then work on the huge business sign commission. Hope all have a great weekend and remember to wear your sunscreen! With Gratitude, Laurie B.

ARTE Y PICO AWARD!!!

Today I received the "Arte Y Pico" Award which is The Creativity and Art Award and I am of course honored!
Kristen from http://kristenandrewsonline.blogspot.com/ bestowed me with this beauty and I cherish it! THANK YOU so much Kristen!
As a side note, I've been busy working on ideas for smaller stained glass items and will be introducing some dragonfly garden stakes in the next few days at very affordable prices! If anyone has ideas for other garden art feel free to share your thoughts! The high gas prices have hit my sales where it hurts but I will not be deterred! (smile) Onward and Upward!
It is now my humble honor to pass this beautiful gem on to 5 other fellow artists who richly deserve this award. To the winners, make sure you grab the picture for your blog and put a caption of who gave it to you.
And the winners are:
Faithful readers, please visit these blogs. They are some of my favorite artists and they are worth the journey-on-over to their place! Fill your world with ART! It's a wonderful way to live!!
With MUCH gratitude, Laurie B.

FLEUR-DE-LIS IN AMBER LIGHT

This amber glass has me mesmerized! I'll be listing this Fleur-DE-Lis this evening on Etsy. If you are interested in purchasing this here's a sneak preview. I can put it on "reserve". This panel also comes in colors of choice. It's a timeless design and lends itself to ANY decor! With Gratitude, Laurie B.

Visuals from The Olde Farmhouse

We've had quite the week here at The Olde Farmhouse! I thought this picture was worth the 1001 words I could give...needless to say...back to back storms, tornadoes and floods! If I had some size 9 ruby slippers I would have used them. I didn't, however, want to crack open my beautiful snowglobe.
As I was dragging tree LIMBS from in front of my garage door I glanced down and saw this delicate robin's egg. The white rose had been cut earlier in the day to float in some water and I brought this darling in and gave it a bed for the night. Couldn't resist the photo as it gave me pause to think how such high winds could snap large limbs from a 30 foot Chinese Elm tree, yet gently lay this egg in the grass...still in tact...
I'm VERY busy working on a large stained glass panel for a business in Wisconsin and am enjoying the time I DO have to do my art in between storms.
Not to disappoint the dozens of you that have emailed me inquiring as to Prudence but it will be another day or two before I get her newest photos posted...she's a pistol and apparently has QUITE a following (bless her whiskers!) With gratitude, Laurie
