LIFE IN A MOSAIC

Good Morning Friends,
I just finished this mosaic on an antique window and hung it in my kitchen.
I'm almost done with the Style FX salon sign and will post it after the owner sees it (next weekend). It's VERY chic and I think the shop will really like it.
I love the way this still life turned out and am so glad I held onto the picture I used for the pattern for so many years. This picture doesn't do it justice but I still wanted to share it with you.
Much gratitude to all of you, Laurie B.

I'M STEPPIN OUT! LAST CALL!!!

Good evening to my readers!
I wanted to post one last time about the American Diabetes Walk that I am participating in on October 5th.
Even the smallest of donations will be appreciated. You can go to my webpage and see the different ways of contributing but I urge you to please dig deep. I know in these horrible economic times we tend to pull our purse strings tight, and rightly so, but if you could sacrifice 5 bucks for the cause, it really will all add up.
Thanks to all of you that have dontated and I wanted to let you know I've been "in training" since signing up. I am up to walking FOUR miles a day now and am shoot for FIVE miles a day starting next Monday.
Am I sore? You becha!
So to recap:
I am Stepping Out for the American Diabetes Association in a three mile walk in Champaign, IL.
Please visit my personal web page at http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/StepOut/StepOut275358010?px=4368358&pg=personal&fr_id=5341 if you are interested in donating, volunteering or participating in this life-saving event.
With Gratitude, Laurie B.
On a side note, I just finished an beautiful mosaic glass applique' antique window. It will need to cure for a week or two but I can't wait to share it. I made it for MYSELF! I really neglect ME when I get busy with orders. So, I'd say the next unveiling will be the salon sign for Style Fx, located in Madison, WI. It's a kickin' salon that does fabulous work so if you're in the Madion area, stop by their shop and tell Jamie that Laurie Sent Yah!

MOSAIC ARTIST EXTRAORDINAIRE!

Mosaic is a medium...
...that can utilize so much that is undervalued or thrown away in our society. The wonderful patterns created by repetition of rubbish-tip items reminds us of elegant ethnic decoration. A simple spoon, key or cup handle repeated acquires a magic, hypnotic musical rhythm.
These opening words on Kaffe Fassett's website, of Kafee Fassett Studio in London, England, drew me in so fast I couldn't learn fast enough!
I've studied his site and have absolutely fallen in love with his jaw-dropping abilities.
He inspired me to follow my own artistic path and set me on a journey studying mosaic artists from around the world. There are styles I've always been more drawn to than others and found that my love for using stoneware in mosaics was deep and everlasting.
I can't put into words what I've learned from Fassett, only to say that if I met him in person I'd probably fall over in a dead faint! The best I can do is try and "turn you on" to his work by giving you the link to his site. http://www.kaffefassett.com/highlandstoneware-mosaics.htm
Study his work and read his story. He's a gift to the world and I'm happy and deeply honored to lift him up in this post as AN ARTIST I ADMIRE! (and aspire to) The picture I'm sharing today is the first mosaic table top I ever created. With gratitude, Laurie B.
